Lester V. Smith Sr.

Lester V. Smith Sr., 96, formerly of Cherokee Drive, died at 8:55 a.m. Wednesday at his home in the Masonic Village at Sewickley.

Born May 10, 1912, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Lester Blare Smith and the late Pira Iva Faith Smith.

Mr. Smith was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

He was a division manager for the West Penn Power Co. in Butler, now known as Allegheny Power. He retired in 1977 after 43 years.

He was a member of the F&AM Lodge 562 in Scottdale, the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh, the Syria Temple of Pittsburgh, the Butler Shrine Luncheon Club and the SAR Christopher Gist of Butler.

He was a 1933 graduate of Muskingum College.

Mr. Smith is survived by two sons, Lester V. Smith Jr. of Portland, Ore., and Douglas K. Smith and his wife, Gloria A., of Cincinnati, Ohio; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Mrs. Helen Loucks of Morgantown, W.Va.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Kurtz) Smith, who was deceased May 21, 2005; and a daughter-in-law, Nadine Wooley Smith, who was deceased June 4, 2007.

<B>SMITH</B> — Friends of Lester V. Smith Sr., who died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home Inc.</B>, 124 E. North St. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. J. David Panther, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum of Butler County Memorial Park.Contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 200 E.
