Louis E. Handte, Sr.

Handte

Louis E. Handte, Sr., 86, of McLafferty Road in Fenelton died Friday at his residence.

He was born March 21, 1922, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Harry L. and Caroline Flanagan Handte.

Louis worked at the Butler County Mushroom Mine in machinery maintenance for more than 30 years and retired in 1985.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army-Air Corps during World War II, earning the rank of second lieutenant.

Mr. Handte was a member of St. John Roman Catholic Church in Coylesville.

He was an avid rock collector and was a member of the Kit-han-ne Rock and Gem Club.

His wife, Marie Thompson Handte, whom he married April 21, 1944, survives him.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Kathryn Green and her husband, John Green of Fenelton and Mrs. Patricia Barker of Cranberry Township; a sister, Sister Mary Urban Handte C.S.J. of Baden; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A son, Louis J. Handte Jr. and a daughter, Marilyn Wise, preceded him in death.

<B>HANDTE —</B> Friends of Louis E. Handte, Sr., who died Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME,</B> 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. John Roman Catholic Church in Coylesville, the Rev. Kenneth Kezmarsky, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.Military honors will be accorded by the Chicora Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Honor Squad.
