Edith E. Martin Gibb
Edith Elizabeth Martin Gibb, 91, died Saturday at Manor Care Health Services-South in York.
Born May 21, 1917, in Mercer County, she was the daughter of Samuel J. and Ethel Idella Gilmore Martin.
She was born and raised on a farm and was active in the Barkeyville Church of God.
Since 1964, Mrs. Gibb was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was active in the United Methodist Women at St. Paul's and at other churches in Western Pennsylvania.
She was a 1935 graduate of Grove City High School and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was the wife of Raymond E. Gibb. They were married July 1, 1936, and they were married 72 1/2 years.
Mrs. Gibb leaves two sons, William Gibb and his wife, Ellen, of York, and Robert Gibb and his wife, Jean, of Lititz; two daughters, Phyllis Short and her husband, Tom, of South Euclid, Ohio, and Barbara Fake of Red Lion; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Louise Gibb Harding Safer; and two brothers, Elton L. Martin and William Gilmore Martin.
<B>GIBB</B> — A Celebration of Life Service for Edith Elizabeth Martin Gibb, who died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St Paul's United Methodist Church social area, 45 First Ave., Red Lion. Visitation will be from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the church.
