Margaret C. Hammond, 86, formerly of West Penn Street, died Sunday at the Lowrie House in Butler.

Born May 17, 1922, in Butler, she was a daughter of the late Earl W. and Margaret Mary (Collins) Walsh.

She was a graduate of Butler High School and had worked at Grant's Department Store, was a teachers aide for St. Paul's School, was a seamstress and bookkeeper for Bartoli's Cleaners and had been a secretary for Mel's Glass, all in Butler.

She was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, the Korner Klub card club, a life member of the Tanglewood Senior Center, a former member of the Associated Artists of Butler County and a past president of the Butler Poetry Club. She had attended Lifesteps.

Margaret was an accomplished painter and poet and had a book of poetry published called "Flight of Fancy," now in the Butler Area Public Library. She also had enjoyed swimming and taking frequent road trips with her husband.

Surviving are two sons, Dennis (Wynn) Hammond of Harrisville and Robert L. (Donna) Hammond, Ph.D., of Harper Woods, Mich.; three daughters, Dr. Sally A. Hammond and her husband, Frederick S. Mishkin, Ph.D., of Irvington, N.Y., Leah (John) Dusheck of Butler and Alice (Richard) Baptiste of Butler; four grandsons, Slade, Dennis, Matthew and Evan; four granddaughters, Laura, Katie, Vicki and Maggie; three great-grandchildren, Samantha, Andrew and Kaylee; a sister, Verna Kriley of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton D. Hammond, whom she married Nov. 17, 1948. He died June 16, 1997. Five brothers and a sister also preceded her in death.

<B>Hammond </B>—<B> </B>Friends of Margaret C. Hammond, who died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made to the Butler Area Public Library, 218 N.
