Julia Palace, 96, formerly of Pillow Street, died early Sunday morning at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born June 18, 1912, in Butler, she was a daughter of Stephen and Sophia Oblack Berdy.

A seamstress and tailor all of her life, Julia had worked at the former Spaide Shirt Factory, McCarren's Clothing Store and Russo's Tailor Shop, all in Butler.

An active member of SS. Peter And Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Lyndora, she also was a member of the Ladies Guild of the church, the AARP, the Sixty Plus Club and a life member of the Tanglewood Senior Center.

She was the widow of Andrew Palace. They married Sept. 26, 1931, and he died April 19, 1994. She also was preceded in death by a son, Andrew A. Palace Jr.; a sister, Mary Berdy; two brothers, John and Michael Berdy; and three half brothers and a half sister.

She is survived by a son, Richard J. Palace of Butler; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

<B>PALACE </B>—<B> </B>Friends of Julia Palace, who died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St.A funeral liturgy will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 21 Evergreen Road, Lyndora. Her cousin, the Rev. George Hnatko of the Eastern Orthodox Foundation and the Rev. Paisius McGrath, pastor, will officiate. Private burial will be at Butler County Memorial Park Cemetery, Butler.A Parastas service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday and a Panachida service will be at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, both at the funeral home.
