Vance E. 'Ed' Riddle
Vance E. "Ed" Riddle, 87, formerly of Harrisville and Grove City, died at 11:15 p.m. Monday at Grove Manor in Grove City, where he made his home for the past six weeks.
Born in Harrisville, Oct. 14, 1921, he was the son of the late James L. and Carrie B. Lynch Riddle.
He was a graduate of Harrisville High School and retired in 1981 as a machinist at Cooper-Energy, Grove City, after 42 years.
Mr. Riddle was a member of the Harrisville United Methodist Church. He was a former member of the Harrisville Volunteer Fire Department and the Harrisville American Legion Post 852 and was a former member of the Harrisville Borough Council and the Harrisville Cemetery Association.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Sara E. Sutherland Stewart Riddle of Grove City, who he married April 28, 1995; a daughter, Diane L. Thompson and her husband, James R., of Grove City; a son, V. Rodger Riddle and his wife, Sandy, of Forestville; two stepdaughters, Marilyn Kay of Grove City and Martha Stewart of Grove City; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are five sisters, Margaret H. Renick of Grove City, Ruth L. Mathews of Nashville, Tenn., Charlotte I. Allison and her husband, Robert, of Slippery Rock, Joan Shreck and her husband, Albert, of Meadville and June Hovis of Grove City; and a brother, Jack L. Riddle and his wife, Faye, of Wyoming.
His first wife, Leora Leah Rodgers Riddle, who he married March 9, 1945, died Feb. 23, 1993. He also was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.
<B>RIDDLE </B>— Friends of Vance E. "Ed" Riddle, who died Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>Jamison Funeral Home</B>, 117 N. Main St., Harrisville. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. William E. Hastings of the Harrisville United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Cemetery, Harrisville.
