Smietana

Joseph Teofil Smietana, 88, of Butler died at 2:05 a.m. Tuesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born Dec. 25, 1919, in Lyndora, the son of the late Teofil Smietana and the late Victoria (Radwinski) Smietana.

He was a member of the St. Fidelis Catholic Church and the American Legion 778 of Lyndora.

Mr. Smietana was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Airborne.

He retired from the silicon department at Armco after 38 years. He also did plumbing work in the area for 74 years and was known as "Joe the Plumber."

He was an avid fisherman.

Surviving are his daughter, Bernie, and her husband, Charles Kammerer, of Butler; a son and his wife, Richard and Linda Smietana of Butler; a grandchild, Jamie Alascia; and a brother, Edward Smietana of Butler.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Ann (Corbett) Smietana, who died March 24, 1993; and a sister.

<B>SMIETANA</B> — Private blessing services for Joseph Teofil Smietana, who died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, were held at 10 a.m. today at the <B>Young Funeral Home</B> with Father George Palick officiating.
