Chester Michalski Sr.
Chester P. Michalski Sr., 86, of Penn Township, Butler, died in the Faith of Christ on Friday at the Butler Memorial Hospital, after a courageous fight of 17 years against prostate cancer. He died the day after his birthday.
Born Nov. 13, 1922, in Lawrenceville, Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Victor Michalski Sr. and the late Julia Piekietowski Michalski.
Chester was the retired owner and operator of the Plane View Inn on Route 8 in Penn Township. He operated his business for 42 years until his retirement in 2004. He also operated his family farm on Victory Road in Saxonburg from 1937 until 1976.
Mr. Michalski was a member of the Butler County Tavern Association and held the office of president for over 20 years. He was also a charter member of the Penn Glade Lions Club.
Chester was a member of Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church in Glade Mills and was an usher at his church for many years. He was an honorary life member of Knights of Columbus Council 866 in Butler and was also a member and Past Faithful Navigator of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree, St. Fidelis Assembly, in Butler.
He had enjoyed hunting trips out West, boating in East Brady and spending his winters living in Florida.
His wife, F. Emma (Varljen) Michalski, whom he married Nov. 8, 1947, survives him. Also surviving are a son, Chester P. "Chuck" Michalski Jr., of Butler; two daughters, Joan Louise Michalski of Butler and Mary Ann Williams of Valencia; five grandchildren, Mandee, Nicholas and Kevin Williams and Victory and Nash Michalski; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, as he was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.
<B>MICHALSKI</B> — Friends of Chester P. Michalski Sr., who died Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the <B>GEIBELFUNERALHOME</B>, 201 East Cunningham St., Butler. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday from Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church in Glade Mills. The Rev. Albert J. Semler, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Herman.Members of the Knights of Columbus will meet at 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Funeral Home to recite the Rosary.
