Carl 'Jake' Terwilliger
Carl A. "Jake" Terwilliger, 73, of New Brighton died Wednesday in Sewickley Valley Hospital with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born Oct. 24, 1935, in Parker, he was the son of the late Curtis A. and Twila E. (Saylor) Terwilliger.
Carl was a graduate of Park High School, Class of 1954. He then entered the Air Force and served 4Z\x years as a staff sergeant.
He was a retired motor inspector from LTV Steel, blooming mill department, and was a truck driver for XL Sand and Gravel in Negley, Ohio, for the past 24 years.
Carl was a member of the Oak Hill Vets and played soccer for a recreation league sponsored by the F.O.P. He attended the Christian Assembly Church, New Brighton, was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and was one who always attempted to play golf.
Carl will be remembered for helping others before himself and for being a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Nancy McLaughlin; three sons and two daughter-in-laws, Carl and Kellee Terwilliger of Elkridge, Md., Corey Terwilliger of Honeybrook, and Thomas and Heather McLaughlin of New Brighton; and three daughters and two son-in-laws, Cynthia and Mike Lake of Reno, Nev., Cathlene Terwilliger of Parkville, Md., and Nancy and Doug Drodge of Daugherty Township. He also is survived by 10 grandchildren, Carl, Melissa, Jacob, Joshua, Benjamin, Jonathan, Cassie, Donnie, Ramie and Raegen, and several nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Peter and Daniel Terwilliger, and one sister, Ella Mae Stephens.
<B>TERWILLIGER</B> — Friend of Carl A. "Jake" Terwilliger, who died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the <B>J & J Spratt Funeral Home</B>, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton. A service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Samuel DeMarco officiating and the Rev. Donald W. MacNeil co-officiating. Private interment will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery, Aliquippa.
