Carrie Elizabeth Cowan, 98, of Beaver, formerly of Fombell, died Tuesday at Friendship Ridge, Beaver.

Born Oct. 29, 1910, in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Bertha (Hoberman) Kistner.

Mrs. Cowan was a member of the Calvin Presbyterian Church, Zelienople.

She was a 1928 graduate of Zelienople High School and a 1931 graduate of the Beaver Valley Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her RN degree. As a registered nurse, she instructed mothers in home nursing and child care through the Red Cross. Following her career with the Red Cross, she was an RN at Passavant Retirement Community for 10 years, retiring in 1970.

Mrs. Cowan also was a member of the New Brighton Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Ellwood City AARP and the National AARP and was active with the Girl Scouts.

She is survived by two daughters, Judith "Judy" Kercovich and her husband, Wayne of Cranberry Township and Margaret "Peg" Morgan and her husband, Robert Jr. of New Brighton; a sister, Betty K. Wright of Zelienople; a grandson, Blake Kercovich; a niece, Betty Lee Lintz; nephews, James and Louis G. Hoover; and other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Cowan, who died Jan. 19, 1990; two sisters, Ruth Haarbauer and Lillian Hoover; and two brothers, Jacob L. "Jack" and William Kistner.

<B>COWAN</B> — Friends of Carrie Elizabeth Cowan, who died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the <B>Boylan Funeral Home</B>, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Polley officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Zelienople.Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 1100 Liberty Ave., Suite E-201, Pittsburgh, PA 15222; Calvin Presbyterian Church, 415 E.
