Hazel Gerwig Hartzel

Hazel E. Gerwig Hartzel, 93, of Zelienople died Monday morning at the Passavant Retirement Community, Zelienople.

Born in Lancaster Township, June 30, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Vesta Schweinegruber Gerwig.

She was a member of the Grace Church of Harmony, where she was the former Sunday school pianist. She also taught piano at her home.

She loved traveling to visit her children and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed sending greeting cards to friends and relatives.

Although afflicted with polio as a child, she always had a positive outlook on life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Levi A Hartzel, who died April 30, 1993.

Surviving are a son, Dale R. (Linda) Hartzel of Zelienople; three daughters, Mrs. Gloria (Blaine) Piper of Madison, N.C., and Ruth Ann Hartzel and April Hartzel, both of Zelienople; and a sister, Mrs. Elsie Douthett of Zelienople.

Also surviving are six grandchildren: Justin (Courtney) Hartzel, of Pittsburgh; Jonathan and Jared Hartzel of Zelienople; Kim Gaster of Madison, N.C.; Julie (Donald) Bokoski of Mayodan, N.C., and Beth (Todd) Juillerat of Hilliard, Ohio; and three great-grandchildren, Piper Juillerat of Hilliard, Ohio, Megan Gaster of Raleigh, N.C., and Jacob Lemons of Mayodan, N.C.

<B>HARTZEL</B> — Friends and relatives of Hazel E. Hartzel who died Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>A. Carl Kinsey-Ronald N. Volz Funeral Home</B>, Zelienople. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Peter Everett, her pastor, officiating.
