6:05 p.m. Wednesday — A tractor-trailer driven by Russell Kradel, 39, of Butler struck a pole while turning from West Cunningham Street to Chestnut Street. The pole, which holds the traffic signal for Race Street, was sheared off in the accident.Tuesday — An unknown thief overnight stole a Dell Inspirion 1500 laptop computer from an unlocked van at Clair Boring Painting and Services on Route 8 South. The computer is valued at $600.Monday — Police filed a felony theft by deception charge against Victor Sanchez, 33, of Butler, who is accused of depositing a counterfeit check for $2,212 at the Huntington Bank branch on South Main Street.Sanchez allegedly deposited the fraudulent check Oct. 20 and between Oct. 21 and 27 made three withdrawals equal to the amount of that check, according to court documents.12:47 a.m. Sunday — Two Butler men are accused of assaulting a 22-year-old city man at an East Brady Street apartment.Greg A. Smith, 18, and Joshua K. Shank, 18, allegedly went to the apartment looking for the victim, who had an argument with Shank the previous evening.The victim, who police did not immediately identify, was treated at Butler Memorial Hospital for cuts to the head and hands.Smith and Shank are charged with simple assault, conspiracy and harassment.Tuesday — ASony PlayStation 3 was reportedly stolen in a burglary at the Douglas Street home of William Zulick in Prospect.
3 a.m. Wednesday — Avandal or vandals damaged two vehicles, a garage and a house on Evans Road near Duffy Road. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call police at 724-285-9600.12:10 a.m. Tuesday — Richard Quinn, 42, of Valencia is accused of shoplifting at the Wal-Mart in Butler Commons. Police said Quinn is charged with retail theft.Wednesday — Police filed criminal charges against Bruce W. Zmijowski, 50, of Butler after officers on Nov. 6 found him with an illegal knife on Linhurst Avenue. Zmijowski is charged with possession of prohibited offensive weapons and disorderly conduct.
11:13 p.m. Wednesday — AFlorida man is jailed for allegedly ramming his vehicle into a vehicle driven by a woman in Allegheny Township.Joseph Paul Kane, 43, of Jacksonville is charged with reckless endangerment and simple assault; he is in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bond.Police said the incident started when the defendant and Caroline E. Johnson, 35, of Parker began arguing at a Sweezy Road home in Allegheny Township. Johnson left the home in a vehicle after Kane threw boots at her, a police report said.The defendant is accused of driving after her and ramming his vehicle into Johnson's vehicle on Allegheny Cemetery Road. Johnson apparently was not injured.Wednesday — A Slippery Rock Middle School student was arrested for allegedly making a bomb threat at the school in Slippery Rock Township.The note, which was found Tuesday morning, caused school officials to evacuate students and staff.The suspect, who police only identified as a girl, is charged in juvenile court with terroristic threats and causing a false alarm.Wednesday — Police charged Eric Albert Oesterling, 25, of Butler after witnesses saw him Oct. 12 allegedly shooting heroin while driving on Route 8 in Center Township. Troopers stopped the defendant at the Clearview Mall and spotted several empty stamp bags of heroin in the center console of his vehicle.Oesterling is charged with driving under the influence and possession of drug paraphernalia.Wednesday — Richard Hulings of Slippery Rock reported two laptop computers were stolen between Oct. 1 and Wednesday from his camper on Route 173 in Slippery Rock Township.
Sunday — A blue and white Yamaha PW80 dirt bike, tools and other items were reported stolen in a burglary at 12 Reigel School Road in Rimersburg.Among the other property taken between Oct. 26 and Sunday was a Craftsman generator, Stihl chainsaw, Bostich roofing gun, Paslode framing gun and an 8-foot metal brake. Joseph Little of Dexter City, Ohio, owns the stolen items.
6:22 p.m. Tuesday — Richard Patrick Clark, 26, of Templeton was arrested for allegedly violating a protection from abuse order after contacting a 26-year-old Templeton woman at the Sunoco station in Worthington. Clark was arraigned on a charge of contempt of court and placed in the Armstrong County Jail on $1,000 bond.
4:07 p.m. Oct. 29 — A boy escaped the George Junior Republic juvenile detention facility in Pine Township. The suspect, who police did not identify, was later captured in Slippery Rock and returned to the facility.Police noted that while on the run, the boy stole a four-pack of body spray at the County Market in Pine Township.
