Lorane Clayton Goss Jr., 70, of Slippery Rock, Worth Township, died at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday at Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Born in Reedsville, Mifflin County, Feb. 18, 1938, he was the son of Lorane Clayton Goss Sr. and Kathleen D. Harbst.

He married Donna M. Wagner, June 19, 1976.

Mr. Goss was a retired engineer having worked for Mikron Industries, Seattle, Wash.

He had been involved in scouting as a young man; and later as an adult, he held a leadership position working as summer camp staff.

He greatly enjoyed fly fishing and previously had been active in training field trial dogs. He was a marksman, receiving numerous awards in competition and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He also was a member of THE Professional Engineers and Trout Unlimited.

Survivors include his wife, Donna M. Goss of Slippery Rock; his mother, Kathleen D. Goss of Grove City; three sons, Lorane C. Goss III of Shermansdale, Steven D. and his wife, Karen, Goss of Felton and Daniel W. Harris of Slippery Rock; two daughters, Ellen K. Goss of Shiremanstown and Dawn M. (and Michael) Womble of Riverton, Utah; and a brother, Robert D. and his wife, Barbara, Goss of Clearwater, Fla. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Genn, Christina, Steven, Robert, Matthew and Alexis.

He was preceded in death by his father.

<B>GOSS</B> — Friends of Lorane Clayton Goss Jr., who died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, will be received from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, Slippery Rock, with Father Matthew McClain, pastor of the church, officiating.Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 670 S.
