Domenica Tascarella
Domencia A. Tascarella, 84, of Bayside, N.Y., died Aug. 11 at the Brookhaven Memorial Hospital, Brookhaven, N.Y.
She was the wife of the late Malcherrio "Cherrio" Tascarella, who died May 29, 1992.
Known to her friends as "Dom," she grew up in wartime London and was one of 70,000 British women who met and married American servicemen overseas and came to live in the United States.
She met her beloved Cherrio, an Army corporal in the 752nd Field Artillery Battalion, at a dance in Covent Garden in 1944. They were married Aug. 19, 1945, in the St. Peter Church in London while Cherrio was in the Army. She set sail for America on the Queen Mary on March 1, 1946, to join her husband and meet her new family.
After living in Leechburg for six years, the Tascarellas moved to New York City. Dom was a G.I. war bride featured in a 1985 PBS documentary and appeared as a guest on the "Today" show with Jane Pauley for the Normandy 40th Anniversary. She was a colorful and courageous woman.
Surviving are a son, Paul Tascarella and his wife, Bambi, of New York City; and two brothers-in-Law, Frank Tascarella and family of Petrolia and Sam Tascarella and family of East Brady. Also surviving are many loving nieces and nephews across the country.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cherrio, a retired coal miner from the Keystone Coal Co.
<B>TASCARELLA</B> — The life of Domencia A. Tascarella, who died Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, will be celebrated at a memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Eusebius Church, East Brady, with the Rev. William Kuba, church pastor, officiating. Burial will be at the St. Eusebius Cemetery, Brady Township, Clarion County, next to the love of her life.Arrangements are being handled by the <B>Buechele Funeral Home</B>, East Brady.
