Daniel C. Hackwelder
Daniel C. Hackwelder, 82, of Butler, formerly of Penn Hills, died Saturday at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Born Oct. 18, 1925, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Anna Mercedes Ambrose Hackwelder and Thomas McAleer Hackwelder.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother, William Hackwelder; an infant brother, Robert Hackwelder; and a sister, Ann Conner.
He served in World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre and served in China. He also served during the Korean Conflict.
He was a baker by trade.
He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Penn Hills and had attended St. Paul Catholic Church since moving to Butler two years ago.
Surviving him are a sister, Mary Esther Hackwelder of Butler; a niece, Esther Radvinski of Lyndora; nephews, William Hackwelder of Parker, Thomas Hackwelder of Fenelton, Raymond Hackwelder of Butler, Thomas Conner of Pittsburgh, Kenneth Conner of Gibsonia and Keith Conner of West Newton; 13 great-nephews and great-nieces; and seven great-great-nephews and great-great-nieces.
<B>HACKWELDER </B>—<B> </B>Friends of Daniel C. Hackwelder, who died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. Visitation also will be held from 11:30 a.m. until noon Friday at St. Charles Lwanga Parish, Corpus Christie Catholic Church, 1550 Lincoln Ave., Pittsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at noon with the Rev. David H. Taylor, pastor, officiating.
