Marian Walters Varano
Marian Walters Varano, 74, of New Castle, formerly of Jefferson Township, died Saturday at the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia in Cabot.
Born May 17, 1934, in Centre County, she was the daughter of John and Sara (Straw) Smay.
She worked as a nursing assistant for Butler Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1979.
She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in New Castle.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting and puzzles.
Surviving are her husband, Vincent Varano, who she married Oct. 18, 2000; two sons, Bruce Walters of Genoa, Ill., and Rickie Walters of Elgin, Ill.; three daughters, Linda (Patrick) Pittsonberger of Huntington, W.Va., Joyce (Tom) Byrnes of Ventnor City, N.J., and Vicki (Phillip) Bachman of Butler; two sisters, Verna Kelley of Sarver and Lois Bowersox of Tampa, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Patricia Daniels, Jayme, Penni, Jenna and Emily Pittsonberger, Elliott Walters, Stephanie Walters and Becky Bachman; two great-grandchildren, J.T. and Olyvia Daniels; a stepson, Vincent J. Varano, of Strasburg, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Tina Rao of New Castle; step-grandchildren, Mandy Rao, Jeffrey McNichols, Melissa Smiley and Justin McNichols; and a special friend, Nancy Bard.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her first husband, Clifford F. Walters, who died Oct. 30, 1996; a son, Wendell Walters; a brother, Howard Smay; and two sisters, Vivian Reinhold and Erma Barton.
<B>VARANO</B> — Friends of Marian Walters Varano, who died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the <B>Fox Funeral Home</B>, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Kevin Knosp officiating.
