Elizabeth Jean Purvis, 86, of Butler died Monday at the Butler Memorial Hospital.

She lived in Mount Chestnut, where she had made her home with her daughter, Lisa, and grandson, Kevin Ceasar.

Born Nov. 7, 1921, in Concord Township, she was the daughter of John W. McDevitt and Mary E. Bish McDevitt.

Mrs. Purvis worked at the lunch counter at Kmart, then went to work at the lunch counter at Woolworth's until her retirement in 1984.

She was Protestant by faith.

Mrs. Purvis loved her family, flowers, birds and animals.

Mrs. Purvis is survived by her husband, Ralph W. Purvis, who she married April 16, 1942; a son, Richard H. "Joe" Purvis and his wife, Sandy, of Virginia Beach, Va.; two daughters, Mary L. Coradi and Lisa M. Ceasar; a sister, Mary Florence Cobler of Concordia Home; three grandsons, Rodney H. Purvis, Clay Purvis and Kevin W. Ceasar; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Mrs. Purvis was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.

<B>PURVIS</B> — Friends of Elizabeth Jean Purvis, who died Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, will be received from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at <B>THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME</B>, 124 E. North St. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jeffrey Curtis, of Mount Chestnut Presbyterian Church, officiating.
