1:18 p.m. Thursday — April Lynne Ryan, 25, of Butler is accused of stealing about $250 worth of cosmetics from the Kmart store in Pullman Square. Police said they also found two syringes in Ryan's purse that was later recovered. She is charged with retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.Thursday — Police charged Donald B. Manuel Jr., 23, of Butler for allegedly using a Butler Memorial Hospital-owned gas card to rack up more than $2,100 in unauthorized purchases.Manual, a former hospital employee, took the card before he was fired from his job in early July. He admitted he used the card for a six-week period to make the illegal purchases, according to a police report.He also allegedly told police he loaned the card to friends to use. Police said Manual is charged with access device fraud.
Saturday — Four people were arrested for drunken driving during roving DUIpatrols conducted Friday night and Saturday night throughout Butler County.On Saturday, officers stopped 58 vehicles and made three DUIarrests. Four citations for underage drinking and 22 traffic tickets also were issued. Additionally, police made two drug arrests and served a fugitive warrant.During patrols Friday, 40 vehicles were stopped and one person was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs. Eleven traffic tickets and two underage drinking citations were issued. One person was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.
7 p.m. Saturday — A sport utility vehicle driven by Russell S. Rice, 34, of SlipperyRock struck the rear of a pickup truck on Route 8 near Branchton Road. Tracey Donop, 44, of Butler, who was driving the pickup, was treated at Butler Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. Police said Rice was cited for following too closely to another vehicle.3:47 p.m. Saturday — Two people including a young child were seriously injured when their SUV crashed into several trees along Route 8 in Slippery Rock Township.Police said the crash occurred when driver Joan C. Kearney, 58, of Harrisville veered off the road and hit a number of trees. The vehicle crossed over a large culvert and rolled onto the driver's side before hitting another tree.Slippery Road and Unionville volunteer firefighters were called and helped free Kearney and a 5-year-old Harrisville girl from the wreckage. Kearney was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, and the girl was flown to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh. Their conditions were not known this morning.Sept. 13 — Scrap metal and wooden planks were stolen in a burglary on Barron Road in Worth Township. Police said the property, owned by Russell Connell of Worth Township, was stolen between Sept. 10 and 13 from several outbuildings.Sept. 8 — An unknown thief stole a shotgun from an Eiffler Lane home in Summit Township. Timothy Hay owns the gun that was taken between May 31 and Sept. 8.
1:05 a.m. Saturday — Gretchen Lee Beers, 31, of Worthington was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Route 422 in North Buffalo Township.Beers' front seat passenger, Jose Sanchez-Marin, 20, of Worthington, was found with an open can of beer. Police said he also used another man's expired Mexican passport when asked for his identification.Sanchez-Marin was arraigned on charges of false identification to law enforcement authorities and an open container violation, and placed in the Armstrong County Jail on $1,000 bail.Friday — An undetermined amount of money was stolen in a burglary at Widnoon Soft Serve at Mahoning and Madison roads in Madison Township. Police said the break-in occurred between 10 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. Friday.11:30 p.m. Sept. 13 — Nicholas Joe Campbell, 26, of Butler is accused of violating a protection from abuse order after unlawfully contacting Nicole Cloak, 20, of Kittanning at an unspecified location on Harris Road in Valley Township.
