Harold G. Garvis Jr., 73, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Aug. 1.

He was born June 10, 1935, in Trafford. He lived in the Grove City area from 1967 to 1989.

Mr. Garvis worked for the Westinghouse Bettis Atomic Research Laboratory from 1954 to 1966. He transferred to the Satec Corp. in Grove City. In 1971, he became a self-employed farmer and a calibration service engineer until 1977.

At the same time, he attended and graduated in 1978 from Slippery Rock State College. That year he became the chief chemist at METCOA in Pulaski. He left there in 1981 to work at Applied Test Systems in the Butler area as service manager. In 1988, he semi-retired and moved to Punta Gorda, Fla., where he continued calibration work for Southern Calibration.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dolores Garvis; seven children, Gerard Garvis, Vincent Garvis and his wife, Sandra, Lena Miller and her husband, Fred, Michael Garvis and his wife, Lisa, Peter Garvis and his wife, Marialyce, Dennis Garvis and Patrice Wolfe; 14 grandchildren; a brother, William Garvis; and two sisters, Margaret Wolff and Priscilla Naworski.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold G. Garvis Sr. and Margaret Garvis; and a son-in-law, Phillip Wolfe.

<B>GARVIS</B> — A memorial service for Harold G. Garvis Jr., who died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Aug. 23 at the Seven Dolors Roman Catholic Church, Yukon, Pa.
