Mary E. MacTaggart
Mary E. Bowman MacTaggart, 94, a lifelong resident of Mercer, died at 2:10 a.m. Saturday at the Grove City Medical Center.
Born in Mercer, Feb. 2, 1914, she was a daughter of Ernest James and Eva Mae Rickard Bowman.
Mrs. MacTaggart, a graduate of Mercer High School, was the last surviving member of the girls who played basketball at the school.
She was a homemaker and had worked at Bowman's Better Groceries and at Western Auto, both in Mercer.
She was a member of the Mercer United Methodist Church for 83 years and belonged to the 50 Plus Club of the church.
She also belonged to the Mercer Golf League, two Mercer bowling leagues and was an active member of the Republican Women. She was one of the original volunteers for Meals on Wheels, worked for the blood bank and served on the board of elections for more than 45 years.
Mary enjoyed working with the elderly and spending time with her beloved bowling and card playing lady friends.
She served on the Mercer High School Hall of Fame Athletic Committee. Mary represented her family, after her husband passed away, during the presentation of the MacTaggart-Shaver Track Awards.
Surviving are a son, J. Edward "Ed" MacTaggart and his wife, Helen, of Deer Isle, Maine, and Green Valley, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Her husband, John W. "Mac" MacTaggart, who she married Aug. 8, 1932, died Dec. 13, 1987.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, J. Lewis "Lew" MacTaggart; three sisters, Ruth Ann Grace, Lorene Bowman and Beulah B. Amon; and a brother, Robert J. Bowman.
<B>MACTAGGART </B>— A memorial service for Mary E. Bowman MacTaggart, who died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Mercer United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eric Leonard officiating. Burial will be at the Findley Cemetery, Findley Township, Mercer County.Memorial contributions may be made to Loaves & Fishes, 393 W. Cornell Road, P.O.
