Dr. Homer C. Baker

Dr. Homer C. Baker, 95, of Caldwell, Ohio, formerly of New Concord, Ohio, died at 5:15 a.m. Sunday at the S.E. Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge, Ohio.

He was born Aug. 11, 1912, in Pittsburgh, son of the late Homer B. and Nellie E. Shadle Baker.

He earned a bachelor's degree in music from Indiana (Pa.) University and was awarded an honorary doctorate of humanities degree from Muskingum College in 1994, honoring his many educational and musical contributions throughout his life.

Homer was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Senecaville, and many Masonic organizations.

He retired from the Halstead Mitchell Corp., Zelienople.

Homer played violin in the Southeastern Ohio Symphony and the tuba in the Cambridge City Band. He completed private pilot ground school at Cambridge Flight Academy in February 2001 at the age of 88.

He was preceded in death by his wife, M. Olive Baker, to whom he was married 63 years. His second wife, Irene Holpp Baker, died in 2004.

He is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Ted) Jones of Derwent, Ohio; grandchildren, Amanda (Michael) Purdy, Audrey (Michael) Kuklica and Jason (Sheri) Jones; and seven great-grandchildren, Colton, Braydon and Kylie Jones, Charlie and Clayton Purdy and Izabella and Elijah Kuklica.

<B>BAKER — </B>Services for the family of Dr. Homer C. Baker, who died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, will be held at New Concord Cemetery with Dr. Susan Hyland officiating.Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 158 High St., Senecaville, Ohio 43780.<B>Mock-Miller Funeral Home</B>, New Concord, Ohio, is entrusted with the services.
