Virginia Joyce "Ginny"Updegraph, 86, of Portersville died Friday at the Creek Meadows Home in Zelienople following a brief illness.

Born Dec. 6, 1921, in New Castle, she was the daughter of Walter Harold and Essie Maude Cox Morrison.

She was married to Henry Paul Updegraph, who died Nov. 23, 1966.

Virginia was a granddaughter of John and Elizabeth Morrison of Ellwood City and also a niece of William Charles Morrison, who once was chief of police in EllwoodCity.

Ginny was a descendent from the Cox, Sankey, Onstott and Mayberry families, who were among the earliest settlers of the New Castle area.

In her younger years, Virginia worked at Penn Power. She then went to work and retired from First Federal Savings and Loan. She was a member of the Portersville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, where she held various church positions. She also was affiliated with the Portersville Christian School. She enjoyed playing Scrabble and spending time with her grandson.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Dee Updegraph, and her son, Robert V. Updegraph and his wife, Linda, all of Portersville. She also leaves behind three grandchildren, Kelly Rossman and her husband, Roger, of Ellwood City, Jason Updegraph of Virginia Beach, Va., and Laura Updegraph of New Kensington; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Natalie Rossman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Carol Jean Updegraph in 2006; and a brother, Wendell L. Morrison.

<B>UPDEGRAPH</B> — Friends of Virginia Joyce "Ginny" Updegraph, who died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, will be received 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the <B>Marshall Funeral Home</B>, 200 Fountain Ave., Ellwood City. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dick Jenks officiating.Interment will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Princeton, Pa.Memorial contributions may be made to the Portersville Christian School, Route 422, Portersville PA 16051, or to the City Rescue Mission.
