Gary E. Karns Sr.
Gary E. Karns Sr., 68, of Penn Township died early Thursday morning at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born in Kittanning Dec. 2, 1939, a son of the late Earl Karns and Charlotte Selle Karns Smith.
In January 1996, he retired from General Electric Corp., where he had worked for 28 years as a Pittsburgh zone service technician.
He had attended Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church.
He greatly enjoyed traveling and camping, having been to all the lower 48 states with his RV and especially visiting friends in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania's Amish country. He had been a member of the local and national Holiday Rambler Camping Clubs.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret "Peggy" Wilson Karns, who he married Feb. 13, 1960; two sons, Gary Karns Jr. and his wife, Beverly, and Mark (Becky) Karns, both of Butler; a daughter, Amy Karns Grupp (Rick) of Butler; seven grandchildren, Rachel and Samantha Karns, Amber and Cody Grupp, Colton and Cameron and Brielle Karns; and two sisters, Ginger Leard of North Carolina and Patricia Cain of Kittanning.
<B>KARNS </B>— Friends of Gary E. Karns Sr., who died Thursday, July 31, 2008, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. David Roddy of Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church will officiate.
