Kevin Berry

Kevin Berry, the commander of Civil Air Patrol Composite Squadron 712 based at the Butler County Airport, was promoted to the rank of captain.Berry, commander of the squadron for more than a year, has been a CAP senior member since 2006. He was promoted by CAP after meeting several requirements, including the successful completion of the Civil Air Patrol's Senior Officer Course through the U.S. Air Force Air University.In addition to being the Butler Squadron Commander, Berry's CAP duties include: mission pilot, cadet orientation pilot and transport mission pilot, mission radio operator and aerospace education officer.Berry and his family live in Renfrew.———

Kimberley McBryar, a fifth grade teacher at Dassa McKinney Elementary School in West Sunbury, recently completed a seven-day immersion into early American history at the Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute.The Teacher Institute was created to encourage history education and make it engaging for students. The Teacher Institute helps prepare teachers to help students meet national and state history standards through hands-on experiences in colonial history.McBryar is a teacher in the Moniteau School District. She has taught for three years at Dassa McKinney Elementary School. She holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Slippery Rock University and is currently working toward a master's degree from Indiana (Pa.) University, Northpointe.———The

EarlyBird Toastmasters club of Butler was awarded the President's Distinguished Award for 2007-08, the highest award a local club can receive.Linda Harigan, president, received the award.EarlyBirds is a part of District 13, which encompasses Western Pennsylvania.
