Golf league raises funds for cancer equipment
The Oakview Ladies Golf League
's annual Breast Cancer Awareness Tournament raised $8,500 for the Women's Imaging Center at Butler Memorial Hospital.The event was held July 10 at the Oakview Golf Club in Slippery Rock. Stephanie Lubinsky and Shirley Vernon of Butler and Phyllis Riede of Grove City cochaired the tournament.Support came from community sponsors, contributors, participants and the Oakview Golf Club.In the nine years the Oakview league has held the benefit, nearly $30,000 has been donated to the Imaging Center to buy equipment that is vital for detecting breast cancer in its early stages when it is most curable.The money raised will be used to help purchase state-of-the-art digital mammography equipment which will begin installation in the next few weeks at both the Butler Hospital and the Butler Commons site, according to Peggy Wright, supervisor of Women's Imaging at Butler Memorial Hospital.More than 100 women participated in the tournament this year, some of whom are breast cancer survivors.
