Norman C. McHattie, 80, of New Castle died Thursday night at Jameson Hospital in New Castle.

Born Sept. 22, 1927, in Princeton, Pa., he was the son of Norman McHattie and Leona Shelenberger.

He retired from Rockwell International Axle Division as a machine operator. He was also a tractor driver and retired after 40 years of service.

He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church in New Castle.

He was a veteran of the Army and World War II. He served in Japan from 1945 to 1947.

He was a 1945 graduate of Shenango High School. He loved to garden, watch sports and spend time with his family and dog, Max.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Swarney, who he married July 3, 1948.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Robert L. McHattie and his wife, Debbie, of New Castle and Gregory McHattie and his wife, Mary Louise, of Butler; his brother, Ernest McHattie and his wife, Martha, of New Castle; and his granddaughter, Sarah L. McHattie.
