To answer Lisa Weisenstein and Tammy: Morality is a code of values to guide man's choices and actions. As man is born tabula rasa, without inherent ideas/principles, man must discover (or learn)--by a process of reason--what is required in order to sustain life. For example, a man needs nourishment in order to live and nature does not provide it for him. A man must learn to hunt, plant food, or produce a service of value to trade for nourishment, i.e. he must be productive. Being productive is a moral action. That is how the concept of morality is formed. When I write of morality being essential for survival, the preceding example is to what I refer not some "life boat ethics" scenario that Ms. Weisenstein construes my position as arising from.
