Viola Catherine Markwell, 99, formerly of Butler, died Monday in Conroe, Texas. She had moved to Texas to be near her family.

Born Oct. 18, 1908, in Butler, she was a daughter of the late Virgil and Bertha Wick McAnallen.

Viola worked as a registered nurse in the Butler area. She worked as a private duty nurse and also worked at Butler Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Butler Memorial Hospital Alumni Association.

She was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler. She also was a member of the General Richard Butler Daughters of The American Revolution and was a past member of the Butler Senior Women's Club.

Surviving are her son, David M. Markwell of Conroe, Texas; her daughter, Mrs. Clifford (Patricia) Gilbert of Mesa, Ariz.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Paul Eugene Markwell, who she married Jan. 14, 1943, preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 1956. Three sisters also preceded her in death.

<B>MARKWELL</B> — Friends of Viola Catherine Markwell, who died Monday, July 21, 2008, will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler. Burial will follow at the Calvary Cemetery. St. Paul's Guild and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:40 a.m. Saturday at the church to recite the Rosary.The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Butler County Unit of the American Cancer Society, P.O.
