Matthew Dec, in his recent letter to the editor, takes exception with Sean Rogers' letter in which he claims his Christian faith and homosexual lifestyle are compatible. Mr. Dec states that Christianity calls for "eternal damnation of homosexuals." I would advise Mr. Rogers that norapprochement is possible with any type of irrational creed, of which Christianity is one example. Mr. Dec illustrates quite clearly why homosexuals should cease seeking inclusion with a religion that produces such adherents as Mr. Dec.

On another subject, Rick from Butler writes that my argument that the US was morally justified (but possibly strategically wrong) to invade Iraq falls short. He states that because of Iraq's prior invasion of Kuwait being labeled a breech of international law, the US has no right to breech the same types of laws cited during Operation Desert Storm. I think that the reason why Operation Desert Storm was justified had more to do with the vital interests of the US that were threatened by Iraqi expansion than a violation of international law (which may have been used as a cover to garner more support). No matter what any international law states, the US, as the most rights-respecting nation in existence, is entirely justified in deposing any government which does not respect the individual rights of its citizens. President Bush has been too sheepish during his term in office and proper US defense strategy has suffered because of the President's inability to resist pandering to the United Nations and his appeals to a body of "international law" that increasingly is being designed to give comfort to despots. I do agree with Rick, thought, that the US plays both sides of this issue and hope that one day the US discards its pragmatic approach in favor of a a principled approach.
