Monday — Someone overnight cut the cable lock on a construction trailer on Peach Street and stole an 8-foot aluminum brake valued at $800.Sunday — George Porter told police that an unknown thief broke into a storage space at his apartment on West New Castle Street, and stole a black, 27-inch Sanchez racing bike and a set of Taylor Made golf clubs. The stolen property is valued at $350.Saturday — Edward Grey reported that someone overnight tried to break into the basement of his Federal Street home. He said barking dogs possibly scared off the would-be burglar.
Saturday — John Fetter, 42, of Butler is accused of breaking a window at a neighbor's home. Fetter is charged with criminal mischief, and possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.4:20 p.m. Wednesday — Vehicles driven by Marjorie Rogner, no age given, and Miranda Bruce, no age given, both of Butler collided on Route 422 near the Route 8 on-ramp. Rogner was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for complaints of neck pain.
11:04 a.m. Saturday — A car driven by Robert Morgelli, 37, of Arnold, Westmoreland County, struck the rear of another car, driven by Linda G. Hill, 55, of West Leechburg, Armstrong County, on Route 356 in Jefferson Township.The collision forced Morgelli's vehicle into a third car, driven by Jeffrey S. Smith, 40, of Valencia. Police said Morgelli was cited for following too closely to another vehicle.11:42 a.m. Wednesday — Randal Scott Everett, 45, of Slippery Rock was arrested for driving under the influence on Route 8 in Mercer Township. In addition to DUI, Everett was cited for careless driving, disobeying traffic control devices, driving on the wrong side of the road, a lane violation and illegally passing another vehicle.9:33 p.m. July 26 — An unidentified vehicle sideswiped a pickup on Bullcreek Road in Jefferson Township. Tina Pultea, no age given, of Akron, Ohio, who was driving the pickup, told police the unknown vehicle, possibly a light blue, older model truck, did not stop after the crash.
Friday — Police filed driving under the influence of marijuana and other charges against an Elk County man, stemming from a July 4 traffic stop on Route 422 in North Buffalo Township. Justin Paul Meyer, 21, of St. Marys also was cited for speeding, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.State Police, MercerMonday — An unknown vandal between 10 a.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. Monday set fire to a 6-by-12-foot vinyl sign at Tri County Industries on Route 208 in Pine Township. Damage was estimated at $400.Sunday — A 50-year-old Volant woman is accused of pulling a knife and wielding a gun during an argument with two other women at Brent and Old Ash roads in Springfield Township.Police said Valerie L. Costanzo threatened Donna Grossman, 36, of Volant with the gun and Pamela K. Thompson, 36, of Sharon with the knife.Police said a "neutral party" stepped in and wrestled both weapons from Costanzo, who is charged with terroristic threats, simple assault, reckless endangerment, carrying a gun without a permit, harassment and disorderly conduct.The defendant was arraigned and placed in the Mercer County Jail on $50,000 bail.
