I do not share the sentiments of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch editorial, reprinted in

the Butler Eagle, which expressed no concern regarding Senator Barack Obama's recent overtures to religious voters. His proposal to continue (and expand) the

disastrous "faith based initiatives" of President Bush will exacerbate the problems of dangerous religious beliefs infiltrating into government decision making. The abstinence only approach to sexual education, which our state wisely turned down funding for, is one such example. This Puritanical approach has hampered the fight against sexually transmitted diseases. Senator Obama must come to realize that pandering to religion, a widespread affliction amongst politicians, will only result in the crucifixtion of reason, truth, and logic leading to the erosion of freedom.
