Lisa Weisenstein's remarks regarding former President George Washington and his apparent religiosity need some clarification. Although Washington may have been relatively more religious than his political contemporaries, it does not follow that he desired that his religious ideas be forced on others. As Ms.Weisenstein states, " peaceable assembly of those religions" present in the early days of our nation was a hope of the Founders, and is the guarantee of the First Amendment. What State Representative Metcalfe's statements do is sow the seeds for sectarian conflict between religions, akin to Shiite/Sunni problems.
