Cody Parker, a 2004 Butler High School graduate and student at Indiana (Pa.)University, accepted a summer position in nuclear physics research at the University of NotreDame in South Bend, Ind.Parker is the daughter of Elizabeth Klee of Slippery Rock and Dale and Karen Parker of Butler. She works part time at Campbell Bus Lines in Slippery Rock.———
Amanda Kyne of Prospect was inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society at Furman University in Greenville, S.C. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kyne.———Westminster College students recently produced documentaries that have been entered in a video contest sponsored by The Christophers, a nonprofit organization that encourages people to use their talents to make a positive difference.The following students were involved in film production:

<B>Ryan Mooney </B>of Zelienople was selected to the National Society of High School Scholars. He is a sophomore at Seneca Valley High School and the son of John and Lynn Mooney. He will attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine at Georgetown University this summer.He has received numerous academic awards and distinctions and plans to enter the medical field.Members of the NSHSS enjoy scholarship opportunities, academic competitions, member-only resources and other benefits.———<B>Mindi Motko Marisa</B>, a Butler High School graduate and former Butler County Junior Miss, was named a Rising Star on Wall Street for Lehman Brothers.The event was sponsored by the Women's Bond Club of New York. One young woman from each Wall Street firm was recognized as the rising star.———
<B>Jorden Beatty</B>, of Butler, has received the David J. Rovnan Memorial Journalism Scholarship at Indiana (Pa.) University.The $1,000 scholarship is available to staff members and editors of The Penn, the university's student-run newspaper.Beatty is a 2006 graduate of Butler High School.He is news editor of The Penn and will continue to work in that position in the fall 2008 semester.———Several scholarships were awarded to children and grandchildren of Butler Memorial Hospital Nurses Alumni members during the Butler Memorial Hospital Nurses' Alumni banquet.Scholarship recipients included the following:<B>Peter Collins</B> and <B>Stephen Collins</B>, sons of Brenda Collins; <B>Amy Cardenas</B>, granddaughter of Betty Stucki; <B>Alexa Joy Hunter</B>, granddaughter of Mary Kay Culbertson Neeley; <B>Jalaine Wallace</B>, granddaughter of Emma Protzman; <B>Darryl Walters</B>, grandson of Frances Diamond; and <B>Kelli Wilkinson</B>, granddaughter of Deanna Bodamer.———<B>Makenzie Smith</B>, a 2005 graduate of Butler High School received a Scholar Athlete Award for cross country from Point Park University at the university's athletic award banquet.A junior majoring in biology, Smith has maintained a dean's list academic status and high athletic performance during the 2007 cross country season. She also works at UPMC Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in addition to her class schedule.———<B>Doug Locke</B> of Butler, along with his team, represented Grove City College in a human-powered vehicle competition. The team placed first in the 2008 American Society of Mechanical Engineers Human Powered Vehicle Challenge East's Utility Class vehicle competition April 25 to 27.<B>
Michael Slomer</B> and <B>Raeanne Gialanella</B>, sophomores at Knoch High School, recently won first place in desktop publishing at the 2008 Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center, in Hershey.They will now advance to the national competition June 24 to 30 in Atlanta. Michael is the son of Paul and Nicole Slomer of Penn Township and Raeanne is the daughter of Ron and Laurie Gialanella of Jefferson.
The Butler Wal-Mart awarded both <B>Skye Sankey</B> and <B>Wayne Dailey</B> Sam Walton Community Scholarships. Each received $1,000 award, payable over one year. Sankey and Dailey, seniors at Butler High School, are among 72,017 students who applied to receive the scholarship.
