Danielle Yobst of Butler were inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society April 5._____

Anne Banister, a 2005 Butler High School graduate and junior at Waynesburg University, received an academic award from the Department of Communication at Waynesburg University on March 30. She also was inducted into the university's Xi Psi Epsilon, DRUS and the Honors Program. Banister has accepted a summer Communication internship at "Little Voices" in Denver, Colo._____Westminster College senior English majors

Tammy Benninger of Valencia and

Justin Kelly of Grove City were honored at the final Bleasby Colloquium of the academic year Thursday for their capstone projects, the final component of the Liberal Studies curriculum at Westminster._____

Shanna Kelly, daughter of Larry and Diana Kelly, of Butler has been elected executive vice president of student government at Youngstown State University. She also was selected to be drum major of the YSU marching band._____

Sarah Cummings of Butler received the Student Leadership Mentor Award at Bucknell University. She is a senior majoring in Philosophy and Political Science. Cummings is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cummings of Butler and a 2004 graduate of Butler Area Senior High School._____The 28th annual WISR Spelling Bee was held at the Sylvan Learning Center at the Point Plaza Feb. 23.

Keely Mohn won first place, and

Hannah Kruger won second place. The Butler Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees presented both students gift certificates for Borders Books. Mohn and Kruger are students at Emily Brittain Elementary School._______

Emily Sale, a junior at Knoch High School, was accepted to the PA Governor's School for Teaching at Millersville University. She is the daughter of Deborah Sale of Saxonburg.______

Julie Hranica was selected as special events chair of the District Board for Circle K. Circle K is a community service organization that works nationwide with Key Clubs and Kiwanis Clubs.Hranica is a sophomore at Mercyhurst College, majoring in Elementary and Special Education. In addition to Circle K, she holds several leadership positions in other school and community organizations. She is the daughter of Ed and Donna Hranica of Sarver and is a 2006 graduate of Freeport High School.
