Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre opens the North American premiere of "Alice in Wonderland" today at the Benedum Center, 719 Liberty Ave. Shows continue through Sunday.

PITTSBURGH — "Alice in Wonderland" crossed the Atlantic from London to arrive in the United States for the North American premiere today through Sunday at the Benedum Center, 719 Liberty Ave.

Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre takes audiences on a journey based on Lewis Carroll's 1865 book, "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," with a full-length storybook ballet featuring a colorful cast of characters.

Choreography is by Derek Deane, with lavish costumes by Sue Blane and the score by Tchaikovsky, arranged by Carl Davis.

The large-scale props and scenery were made by independent contractors with specific specifications and details copied from a 1:25 scale model.
