Dan McElroy, 69, of Graham, N.C., died at 8:35 p.m. Tuesday at the Hospice Home in Burlington, N.C., after a year of declining health.

A native of Butler County, he was the son of the late Clarence Thomas McElroy and Hazel Mae Oppelt McElroy.

He was an Army veteran and retired as an electrical engineer at Lucent Technologies.

Mr. McElroy attended the Haw River Seventh-day Adventist Church.

He enjoyed golfing with his friends from the Senior Men's Golf Association in Alamance County, N.C. He also was an avid fisherman and hunter and a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Surviving are his wife, Marge McElroy; two daughters, Bethany Furubayashi and her husband, Hugh, of Seattle, Wash., and Ashley Haynes and her husband, John O., of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a son, John McElroy and his wife, Julianne, of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Betty McElroy of Jenson Beach, Fla., and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine McElroy, and a brother, William McElroy.
