Louis J. Butch Jr., 88, of Buffalo Township, formerly of Lower Burrell, died at 10 a.m. Monday after a long illness at the Saxony Health Center, Saxonburg, where he lived for the past 20 months.

Born July 14, 1919, in Tarentum, he was a son of Louis J. Sr. and Elvira DiBucci Butch.

He lived in Buffalo Township for the past four years; and prior to that, he lived in Lower Burrell for 27 years. He was raised in Tarentum.

Mr. Butch had been a crew leader for Equitable Gas in the Pittsburgh area and retired in 1980 after 33 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of the St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church, Lower Burrell and the Tarentum VFW.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his grandsons.

Surviving are two daughters, Louise J. (Dennis) Colgan of Lower Burrell and Judith A. Butch of Buffalo Township; two grandsons, Scott Colgan and Brian (Heather) Colgan, both of Lower Burrell; a great-granddaughter, Haley Colgan of Mayport; and a great-grandson, Brady Colgan of Lower Burrell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary G. Faiola Butch, who died Aug. 4, 2000; three brothers, Guy, Joseph and Frank Butch; and five sisters, Teny Banichar, Mamie Chierici, Rose Fiorentino, Mary Mallough and Betty Olencik.

A Christian funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church, Lower Burrell.
