Karenbauer

James J. Karenbauer, 87, of 5 K&L Lane, formerly of Center Drive, Chicora, died Friday morning at the Good Samaritan Hospice, Concordia Lutheran Ministries, in Cabot.

Born Feb. 15, 1920, in Butler, he was a son of Peter and Agatha Weiland Karenbauer.

He had been a welder for Spang & Co. in Butler until his retirement in 1981.

He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in North Oakland, where he was also a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Joseph's.

Surviving are his wife, Rose A. Allen Karenbauer, who he married Oct. 2, 1976; four children, Raylene (George) Rekich, Gene (Sandy) Karenbauer, and Brad Karenbauer, all of Butler, and Jana Jo (Tom)Becker of Glenn Allen, Alaska; one daughter-in-law, Janice A. Karenbauer of Butler; 17 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren, four stepdaughters, Sandy (Fred) Fritch and Jacqueline Gold, all of Butler, and Cathy (Larry) Albert and Terri (Dean) Watterson, all of Georgia; eight step-grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren; one brother, Carl Karenbauer of Chicora, and one sister, Helen Kuzma of Tionesta.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Mottern Karenbauer, who died May 15, 1974; one son, James A. Karenbauer, who died Nov. 12, 2007; one daughter, Renae Strobel, who died Dec. 4, 2007; one sister, and seven brothers.

Cunningham St.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, North Oakland. The Rev. Richard Karenbauer, pastor of St. Marys of Cyestochowa Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington, will officiate.
