West Sunbury man wins Mercury SUV in raffle
CRANBERRY TWP — Harvey Kiefer of West Sunbury was randomly selected from more than 59,000 raffle entries to win a 2008 black Mercury Mariner worth more than $20,000.
The vehicle was presented to him Tuesday afternoon at Northland Lincoln Mercury by campaign sponsors Eat'n Park Restaurants and the Pittsburgh Lincoln Mercury Dealer Association.
"I feel good I guess. I don't get too excited," said Kiefer, 60, of West Sunbury.
The tickets were sold as part of the 29th annual Caring for Kids campaign, which benefits 13 children's hospitals and charities across Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.
The vehicle raffle generated more than $118,000 of the $302,549 raised companywide by Eat'n Park during the 2007 holiday season.
For 15 years, Eat'n Park employees have sold raffle tickets for $2 a piece during the five-week campaign.
"We love it. We make a big little party out of it," said Colleen Coll, a spokeswoman of Eat'n Park.
Kiefer bought his ticket at the Eat'n Park in the township while dining with his wife, Kathleen. He has been buying raffle tickets for more than 30 years, he said.
Kiefer waited until Christmas Eve to surprise his wife with the good news.
"It was really hard, but I kept it a secret," Kiefer said. "We all open a present on Christmas Eve and I wrapped up the ticket for her."
Kiefer, who already has three vehicles, sold his pearl white 2006 Kia Monte to his brother-in-law.
"He wanted it ever since I bought it," Kiefer said.
