Small bakery fire quickly contained in Lyndora
LYNDORA — Firefighters this morning quickly doused a small smoldering fire at a bakery.
Although the cause of the 8:30 a.m. blaze was not immediately known, Dexter Keibler, chief of the Lyndora Volunteer Fire Department, said the fire started in the rear of 8 Chesapeake Street above the bakery's oven area.
Debra Bristan, who owns the Lyndora National Baking Co. with her husband, George Bristan, said the bakery is not open for business on Mondays, but baking does begin for the week early Monday morning.
Bristan said a hired company was installing insulation in the area where the fire appeared to have begun.
Firefighters, who had the blaze under control in less than a half-hour, tossed charred insulation and floor boards from the building's second floor to the ground.
No one was injured, and Keibler said a damage estimate would not be available until later.
Traffic was rerouted around the area while firefighters were there.
In addition to Lyndora, firefighters from South Butler, Meridian and Greenwood Village fire departments responded.
