Mary E. Barr

Mary E. Barr, 88, of Brookeville, Md., formerly of Butler, died at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the Brooke Grove Rehab and Nursing Home, Brookeville.

Born March 21, 1919, in West Sunbury, she was the daughter of Earl Young and Evelyn Dann.

She retired as librarian at the Butler County Community College, where she worked from 1969 to 1982.

Mrs. Barr, an alumna of Butler High School, graduated from Capital University with a degree in teaching and from Western Reserve with a master's degree in library science.

She was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She also belonged to the Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association, Beta Sigma Phi and the Maqueda Chapter 421 Order of the Eastern Star.

She was an avid bridge player.

Her husband, Jennings B. Barr, whom she married Nov. 27, 1957, died June 22, 1991.

Surviving are a daughter, Jennifer Diamond; two stepsons, Jennings Barr II and Car1 T. Barr; three grandchildren, Tyler, Kayleigh and Alexis Diamond; several step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.

<B>BARR </B>— Friends of Mary E. Barr, who died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>Thompson-MilLer Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Alden Towberman, her church pastor, officiating.
