Crash injuries claim Summit Township woman

BUFFALO TWP — A70-year-old Butler County woman died of injuries suffered in a head-on crash that injured two others Saturday afternoon on Route 356, authorities said.

Loretta Grecco of Summit Township was a passenger in a vehicle driven by her husband, Carl Grecco, that collided with another vehicle about 3:20 p.m., just north of the Buffalo Plaza.

Grecco was taken to Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, where she was pronounced dead at 12:17 a.m. Sunday, according to the Allegheny County Coroner's office.

An autopsy was done Sunday, but the cause and manner of death are still pending, a coroner's investigator said this morning.

Carl Grecco and the other driver, a woman whose name was not available this morning, also were flown by helicopters to unknown Pittsburgh hospitals.

The conditions of the drivers were not known this morning, but authorities said both suffered moderate to serious injuries.

Township police are investigating the crash. Areport was not yet available and police could not be reached for comment this morning.

The Greccos were traveling northbound on Route 356 in a Buick sedan and the other driver was southbound in a Cadillac sedan. Air bags deployed in both cars, authorities said.

Firefighters had to pry open the doors of both cars to free the injured from the wreckage, said Ollie Hawk, assistant chief of the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company.

The crash closed the busy road for about 90 minutes. The road was reportedly dry at the time of the accident.
