Myra Leida Gerstner
Myra Leida Gerstner, 63, formerly of Butler, died Friday at the Veterans AffairsHospital in San Francisco, Calif., after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Feb. 28, 1944, in Butler and was the first daughter of Mabel and Thomas Gerstner.
After attending Slippery Rock State College, Ms. Gerstner proudly served in the Army for eight years and in the following two decades was a supervisor for Geico Insurance.
She was the biggest supporter of her brothers and sisters and her many nieces and nephews and an avid San Francisco Giants and 49er fan.
Throughout her life she excelled in many sports, especially swimming, volleyball and basketball.
She is survived by eight sisters, Mrs. John (Anita) Cook of Santa Rosa, Calif., Ms. Kris Clark of Butler, Mrs. Kathleen Bennett of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Robert (Joanne) Goldbort of Terre Haute, Ind., Mrs. Steve (Patricia) Kimball of Boise, Idaho, Mrs. John (Margaret) Angle of Williamsburg, Va., Mrs. John (Rebecca) Krivak of Butler and Mrs. Keith (Elizabeth) Braud of Ringgold, Ga.; three brothers, Thomas Gerstner, George Gerstner and his wife, Deanna, and Charles Gerstner and his wife, Bridget, all of Butler; 39 nieces and nephews; nine great-nieces and great-nephews; and her two devoted friends, Joy Riddle and Wally Wilkosz.
She gave generously of her time caring for friends who suffered with AIDS. Her many friends and family will dearly miss her enthusiastic laughter and passion for life.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father. A brother, Michael, died at birth.
