Rockets boys win cross country title
Slippery Rock's boys cross country team captured its first Region 2 championship Tuesday.
But it didn't come easily.
Taking on Grove City in a showdown for the region title, the Rockets wound up in a 28-28 tie, but won the meet because their sixth-place runner, Eddie Schrieber, crossed the finish line before Grove City's.
Grove City's Jacob Kildoo won the boys meet with a time of 17 minutes, 46 seconds. The Eagles' Megan Degraaf won the girls meet in 21:37.
Slippery Rock's boys are 6-0 while the Rockets are 4-2. Slippery Rock hosts the Region 2 championship meet at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The victory clinches a fourth straight Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference crown for the Gremlins (16-1, 16-0)Cory Terwilliger, Nick Lopresti, Aaron McGarvey and three defenders, Zach Sadowski, John Burns and Cody Zabicki, each scored a goal.Chris Harmon added three assists and Josh Grenninger made six saves in the shutout.Karns City will close its regular season on Thursday with a trip to Punxsutawney.
