Teachers

Teachers have always and always will work on a contract that pays for 180 days (until the government changes it). Whether the school is year round or off through the summer, the days add up to the same. Year round schools go for a few weeks and then have a few weeks off. The pay is for the time that we are contracted. If you add more days, you add more pay. I know that I am blessed to have those days off to spend with my family and to not have to worry about snowy roads (except at the end of the day)...but for most of us, it is NOT why we chose to be teachers. In addition, teachers choose to either get paid during the school year, or have their pay distributed year round. I am not being paid to sit around all summer. You chose your career and I chose mine. Want to be a teacher? Go to school to be one. As a country, we worry about competing with other nations. If we want to be competitive, we need to pay for teachers that are going to give you the bang for the buck.
