Being a foster parent and moving home to Pa I really would like to address an issue I feel is important, not just for our community but as adults and parents. We need to be responsible for our friends and neighbors who can't or refuse to be for the sake of the children. There are many reports every day of child abuse and neglect in every county of Western Pa as well as other states. I myself have been aware of several incidents of this abuse and felt obligated to report it not just as a concerned citizen but as a moral humane individual who cares about adults and children alike. If you know of abuse or neglect don't pass it off onto someone else or expect someone else to step up and make the call. I can't tell you how many children have been known to suffer in abuse and neglect because people are afraid to get involved and report it. You can save a childs life by doing so and the person who is abusing or neglecting the child may just need that wake up call. Please report child abuse and neglect. Also consider this, another form of abuse exists among our older community as well. Many elderly are abused or neglected every day in nursing homes. Sometimes I think we need to recognize that our society is imperfect in a lot of ways, once we accept that these things are happening we can take steps to prevent it and prosecute those who have participated in the abuse.
