Lewis C. Dittman Jr., 57, of Knox died early Sunday at Clarion Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Butler, July 24, 1949, he was the son of Lewis C. Dittman Sr. and the late Phyllis Lucille Teats Dittman.

He was a 1967 graduate of Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School in Foxburg.

He was a Protestant.

At the time of his death, he was a township supervisor for Salem Township, Clarion County, and had been a truck driver for more than 35 years.

He served in the Army from April 1968 to April 1971 and served in Vietnam with the 334th Aviation Co., Aerial Weapons, from March 21, 1969, to March 17, 1970. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, the Army Commendation Medal for Heroism, the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Achievement and the National Defense Service Medal.

He was a member of the Canby Lodge F&AM 520 of St. Petersburg, the Oil City Lodge of Perfection and the New Castle Consistory. He also was a life member of the VFW Post 7073 of Parker and a member of the American Legion Post 636 of Foxburg.

Surviving are his wife, Carol Mays Dittman; two sons, Brad Dittman and his wife, Jen, of Parker and Brian Dittman and his fiancée, Tracy, of Centerville; his father and stepmother, Lewis and Ruth Dittman of St. Petersburg; a stepdaughter, Chrissy Donaldson of Florida; sons, Clifford and Quinton Codispot; sisters, Bonnie Dittman and her companion, Barney Koerner, of Butler and Deborah Facciani and her companion, Jerry Beers, of St. Petersburg; eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a son, Bretton Dittman, and a stepson, Clayton Wike.
