Ceremony held at BC3 for recent GED passers

BUTLER TWP — Butler County Community College will host a graduation ceremony for those who passed the General Education Development tests. It will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 17 in the Succop Theater on the BC3 campus.

The theme is "Stepping Stones in the Journey of Lifelong Learning" and will celebrate the achievements of Adult Basic Education and English as Second Language students in the county, according to a BC3 news release.

The ceremony will recognize 2007 GED recipients from four programs — Family First Resources, Intermediate Unit IV, Summit Academy and Adult Literacy at BC3. Anyone who received a GED between July 1, 2006, and June 30, can participate.

Nicholas Neupauer, BC3 president, will welcome students and their families and 1999 GED graduate Kim Smith, director of the KEYS Program at BC3, will address the students on their accomplishments.

The ceremony also will include student speakers Terrance Wansley and Joseph Stercula from Summit Academy and April Jones from the adult literacy program at BC3. A reception for graduates and their families will follow.

According to Robert Kennedy, county GED test examiner, more than 300 county adults received a GED between July 1, 2006, and June 30, according to the news release.
