Shannon

William C. "Bill" Shannon, 97, of the Lowrie House, formerly of Shannon Road in Renfrew, died at 4:35 p.m. Wednesday.

Born April 18, 1910, in Butler, he was the son of Frank G. and Rose E. Anderson Shannon.

Mr. Shannon had been a warehouse manager for Leedom & Worrel. He then became a warehouse manager and salesman for General Mills and a salesman for P.J. Oesterling. He retired in 1975 as a custodian for Butler School District.

He was a member of White Oaks Springs Presbyterian Church for 86 years and served as an elder, trustee, deacon, Sunday school superintendent and teacher and was a member of the Fellowship Sunday school class.

He was a former member of Connoquenessing Township school board, the Connoquenessing Volunteer Fire Department and the United Commercial Travelers, where he was a past senior counselor. He also was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

He enjoyed farming, hunting and reading in earlier years.

Surviving are a son, William C. Shannon Jr. of Monroe Ohio, and his wife, Janet A. Freehling Shannon; two daughters, Virginia "Ginny" Henry and her husband, Russell, of Renfrew and Sue Ellen Anderson and her husband, Daniel, of Greensburg.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Keith D. Shannon and his wife, Syreta; Debra L. Kammer; Lori S. Mizgorski and her husband, Edward; Brian R. Henry and his wife, Jenifer; Traci L. Cotterman; Erik L. Anderson and his wife, Kiera; Kristopher T. Anderson and his wife, Jennifer; and Benjamin D. Anderson and his wife, Mary; and nine great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother, F. Richard Shannon of Butler; six nieces; and five nephews.

His wife, Audrey N. Crispin Shannon, whom he married June 15, 1937, died Jan. 10, 2001. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Meade E. Shannon; and a sister, Anabele McGinley
