Fair and some ranting..lol
I took my 3 kids to the fair. My husband stayed home to save money. It cost 50 dollars to get and for my kids to ride. That might not sound like alot to some, for us it was alot. My husband and I both work. Thank God for the food stand by the Grange building that was selling basic food items and drinks for a buck or we wouldn't have been able to eat there. We do take our kids to other parks for family vacation, that is very important to us to create those fun experiences and memories for our children. We save to go to places like Kennywood, the Zoo, Myrtle Beach and such...but to pay those prices to go to our local fair is just crazy. It's not worth it to me to do that anymore. We quit going to the Saxonburg carnival because it costs almost just as much as the fair..that's a super rip. I'm sure I'm not the only Butlerite who soon won't be able to afford to attend our local fair.
On a different subject, I read where 96,000 dollars was paid to the contractor for the jail for work completed, but wasn't approved by the council first....my question is, why can't our city fix and maintain our only city pool? I saw the plans where they want to build a convention center and hotel and crap in town...oh yeah..we cant' have a pool, but let's impress all the visitors with our business district. And all the money that was being paid for those houses on Main St...60,000 dollars in mortgage payments in one year...for the "art" district...what the heck is going on in this town? This is not Pittsburgh, this is Butler,..small town ...helllo?? They won't fix the S.Monroe St bridge..or even pave it for that matter...I don't think anyone on Diamond St is on the same page. Get back basics and fix the "smaller stuff" then worry about creating strip districts, business dist. and art dists. I don't know maybe it's just me, but I feel like Butler is just falling apart while the Mayor and council are worried about impressing the wrong people. Impress us, the resident taxpayers.
